George was born on December 23, 1933 in Spring Hill, Kansas to Jasper Medlin and Ida Jones Medlin. His only sibling was an older brother, Frank Medlin. His family farmed and lived around the Spring Hill/Hillsdale area.

He graduated in 1951 from Spring Hill High School. George married Geneva Pinkley (a preacher's daughter) from Buffalo, Missouri on December 28, 1951, 5 days after his 18th birthday. They were blessed with five children, Debbie, Janet, Bruce, Lewis and Lois. The family lived in Spring Hill until they moved to Olathe in 1978.

George was a hard worker, and for many years worked nights at Delco, an additional part time job, and gardened. After his retirement, he became a Reese and Nichols real estate agent and ended his working career driving for Car Quest.

He spent a lot of time reading and studying the Bible. He enjoyed watching football, reading westerns, and working outdoors, especially raising a large garden for his family. He spent many hours in his garden where he loved to meditate and talk with the Lord which led to his favorite song, "In the Garden".
