Alex, an Olathe native, was born January 30, 1955 at Olathe Medical Center. He graduated from Olathe High in 1973 where his main sport was football. Continuing his education at Drake University, Alex received his Bachelors Degree in Business in 1977, during which time he played rugby for the city of Des Moines. The same year he graduated, Mitch Ashlock and Alex founded A&L Underground, Inc. a utility construction company. They began projects within a three state region of Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma with a single ditching machine. Through the following years Alex built A&L into an international pipeline construction and directional drilling company that completed work in North America, South America, the Middle East, and Asia.
Alaska, the Yukon Territory, and Africa were just a few of the exciting locations Alex was able to experience as a big game hunter. He enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with younger generations, while helping to promote hunter education and safety.
Alex lived life to the fullest and encouraged those around him to do the same. His enthusiasm for life touched each and every individual he encountered, both socially and professionally. Alex's powerful presence will live in the hearts and minds of those he knew. He is greatly loved and will be missed by all.
