GENE H. McQUITTY, 83, of Olathe, KS, passed away May 13, 2012, at Kansas City Hospice House. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 16 from 6:00-8:00pm at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Blackbob Rd, Olathe, KS followed by funeral services on Thursday, May 17 at 11:00 am, also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Olathe Hospice House.
Gene was born December 17, 1928 near Garland, MO. He was the first child of George H. and Nannie Marie (Johnson) McQuitty. In March of 1951, Gene was inducted into the US Army, and served in the 21st Infantry Regiment of the 24th Division. Gene was deployed to the Korean front on July 9, 1951. After returning from his military service, he worked for the General Motors Corporation for over 37 years.
Gene and his wife, Wilma, were long-time members of New Hope Presbyterian Church in Olathe, KS.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wilma, daughter Paula (L.E.) Huckleberry, Diane (Monty) Duke, and Donna (Scott) Buescher, his sister JoAn (Gerald) Woody, his brother David (Kris) McQuitty, and sister-in-law, Lila June McQuitty. Also surviving are his grandchildren Kylie, Justin, and Joshua Huckleberry, Christine (Loren) Walters, Stephanie, Jennifer and Caroline Duke, and Zach Buescher, Benjamin (Jennifer) Buescher, Rebekah (Mark) Wampler, and Jonathan Buescher, and great-grand-daughter, Jordan Walters, one aunt Catherine McArthur, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Harold McQuitty.
