Gary L. Prewitt was born to the union of Lovel and Elaine A. Prewitt on September 9, 1958, in Cleveland, Ohio. Gary was the Fourth of five children. Gary's parents (father) Lovel and (mother) Elaine preceded him in death.
Growing up Gary was affectionately known as "Buster", a nickname given to him by his grandmother Annie Sharp. Gary received his early education through the East Cleveland school system. Gary played basketball for Shaw High School where he graduated and received a scholarship to attend Dennison University.
Gary began his career in healthcare at University Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. Shortly thereafter in 1981, he became a Respiratory Therapist. Looking for something more, Gary decided to move to Long Beach California, in 1988. He earned his Masters of Arts degree in Organizational Management in 2003. Gary worked in the health care industry for 42 years, of which he worked in various hospital leadership roles in California and Kansas. Prior to his untimely death he was employed at Providence Medical Center & Saint John Hospital where he served as the the Director of Pulmonary & Neurodiagnostics for 12 years. After 42 years in health care and 20 months of working tirelessly to support his staff fighting the COVID 19 pandemic, he was eagerly looking forward to retiring in February 2022.
Gary enjoyed spending time with his family, his friends, loved music, and collected art. For those who really knew Gary, knew he had a special love for plants and enjoyed his fish tank.
Gary departed this life on December 20, 2021. Gary is remembered by his four children: Eboni White (Elliot), Jordan Prewitt, Jessica Prewitt, and Arianna Prewitt. His loving Partner Kesa and Her family, His siblings: Valerie Ammons (Jerry), Kenneth Maxwell (Cherry), Susan Watson (Eric), and Jeffrey Prewitt (Nadis). Three grandchildren: Jaylin White, Kaylin White, and Ramya Prewitt, uncles, aunts, nieces, and nephews.
