Gary Lee Hatton went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 8th, 2017. He is survived by his wife Linda, son Jeff (Carina), grandsons Christian and Carson, and granddaughter Isabel. A daughter Jennifer and son Shawn (Chrissy), grandson Austyn, and granddaughters Cayleigh and Brookelyn. His parents, Don J. and Betty Grace Hatton preceded him in death and now they are reunited in heaven. He is also survived by his brothers Tom (Renee), Dan (Linda), and nieces and nephews. Gary grew up in Mount Vernon, Ohio where motor boating, water skiing, sailing, and fishing on Lake Erie were a big part of his family life. His love for the water did not diminish and he continued all these activities with his own family. He loved fishing with his grandkids, sailing his radio controlled sailboats whenever he could. He also loved riding his motor scooter when the weather was nice outside. He was very skilled when it came to working on cars, whether it be his cars, or his son's and daughter's cars. Gary was the ultimate "Mr. Fix-It", and could fix anything if he could "find the parts to fix it" or sometimes he would make his own part to fix what he was working on. He always completed every task he was working on, even if it took him a couple of hours, a couple of days, or a couple of weeks. Gary graduated from United Electronics Inc., with an associate's degree as an Electronic Technician in 1969. He was a detailed, oriented person and spent his whole life in the telephone industry as an engineer. He retired from Sprint in 2009 after devoting more than 32 years with the company. He was a good man with a big heart, a hard work ethic, and was loved so much by his family. Life is fleeting – Sail on Dad, sail on. We love you so much and you will be greatly missed.
The family will receive guests for a visitation from 6 – 8 pm on Thursday April 20th, 2017, at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Olathe. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice in Gary's name. Gary will be taken back home to Ohio and laid to rest at a later date.
