Garry Lee Poore, 82, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2024 at his home in Olathe, Kansas.
Garry was born on July 29, 1941 to Homer Ivan and Thelma Iris (Tunison) Poore in Kansas City, Kansas. Born first as the older twin to Larry, these two brothers were quite the pair growing up, as they delighted in using their identical looks to prank others! After graduating from Wyandotte High School in 1959, Garry went on to attend Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas. He was a proud member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, for which he remained involved in Alumni events with his class of 1963.
After graduating from Baker, he began his career in Sales in Health Insurance, working for various companies, large and small, throughout the years. On June 21st, 1980 he married the love of his life,
Susan Ann (McLaughlin), and they made their home in Olathe. Garry and Susan would have been celebrating 44 years of marriage this summer.
After retirement, Garry served as an ambassador for the Olathe Chamber of Commerce for many years, setting records, giving back to his community and making lifelong friends along the way. Garry loved life, people and most importantly our heavenly Father. He and Susan traveled to some wonderful places in the world, enjoyed time with friends and small groups with church. Garry was a sports enthusiast cheering on the Jayhawks, Chiefs and Royals!
Garry is survived by his wife, Susan, his children Amy (Brent), Scott and Ashley (Josh), grandchildren Audrey, Layton and Maisie Rae, many nephews, nieces, fur-grandchildren and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother Larry, sister Lou, brother-in-Law Walt and nephew Bruce.
Garry lived by his motto “My goal in life is to put a smile on everyone’s face,” and we would say that he did just that.
A Funeral Service will be held on June 29th, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Church of the Resurrection West 24000 West Valley Parkway, Olathe, KS 66061.
Garry had a love for the beach and his floral shirts (think Tommy Bahama!) so the family requests you wear floral or coastal attire to the service, thank you!
In memory of Garry, if you wish, a contribution may be made in his honor to either foundation:
Resurrection West Generation to Generation Campaign
or
bring hope to homeless pets and rural animal shelters.
