CAPT. FREDERICK R. McKAY, age 80, passed away March 25, 2012 in Overland Park, KS. A Celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at 11:00 am at Unity Church of Overland Park, 103rd and Antioch, Overland Park, where the family will receive friends following the service. Memorials are suggested to the Dwight Cowles American Legion Post #370.
Frederick was born October 7, 1931 in Wichita, KS to Frederick E. and Marie McKay, the oldest of six siblings. He enlisted in the US Marines in 1950 and served our country for 22 years during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, retired as Captain and was awarded two purple hearts for his service. Fredrick was also employed with the Sherriff's Dept., the Topeka Police Dept., and US Postal Service.
Surviving family are his wife, Renate, his daughter Jennifer (John) Long, and his sons Ronald (Cathy) McKay, and Scot (Melissa) McKay, grandchildren Christopher, Kali, Cameron, Joshua, Patrick and his wife, Meredith, Abby and her husband, David, Keegan, Caleb, and Carly, and his two-great-grandchildren Emmielyn, and Elijah. He is also survived by his beloved schnauzer, Chesty. Also surviving are his sisters Joyce (Robert) Graumann, Judy McDermott, and Susan (Kenneth) Everett, and his brother Murray A. (Donna) McKay.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Fortner, and his parents.
