Frank W. Miller, 86, passed away Friday, May 18, 2007 at St. Luke's South Hospital, after struggling for several years with heart complications. The family will receive friends at 9:30 a.m., Monday, May 21 at the Country Club Christian Church, 6101 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m., also at the church. Burial will be in the Tipton Masonic Cemetery, Tipton, Missouri. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Country Club Christian Church memorial music fund. Arrangements entrusted to Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home-Olathe Chapel (913-768-6777).
Frank was born Jan. 3, 1921 on the family farm near Tipton, Missouri, one of seven children born to Arble and Effie Miller. He grew up in the same area and attended Clark school, a one room elementary. He then went on to attend Tipton High School, where he graduated as the Valedictorian. After two years at Central Missouri State College, he transferred to Missouri University and graduated in 1943. Immediately after graduation he enlisted in the Army Air Corp, where he was trained as a cryptographer. While serving our country in the Army Air Corp during World War II, he was sent to the China-Burma, India Theater and was stationed in China where he remained until the war ended.
In 1946 he married his waiting fiancee, Gwendolyn Hall. They have spent most of their married life in the Kansas City area where they raised their family of three children.
Frank's career began in insurance, but he soon found that he was better suited for business management. His degree and training was in Business Administration. He spent several years with Staley Milling Company, first in sales, then in management. Later,after Staley Milling Co. sold, he was hired by Butler Manufacturing Company. After many happy years there he retired in 1984 because of ill health. He retired as Sales Manager of the Central Region.
Frank and his family have been members of the Leawood Country Club and the Leawood South Golf and Country Club. He was a 50 year+ member of the Masonic Lodge, Ark 335, a member of the Last Man's Club of Oakland, Iowa, the American Legion, and active in Boy Scouts. Frank was an Elder in the Country Club Christian Church, and active in service and committee work. He was a life-long member of the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity.
Frank leaves his wife, Gwen, his son, Bruce E. Miller and his wife wife, Rebecca of Ashburn, VA, two daughters, Carol L. Chipman and husband, Bob of Topeka, and Anne E. Simon of Wichita. He leaves eight grandchildren, Zachary, Laura, Alex, and Nate Simon, Kelsey and Bobby Chipman and Bryce and Taylor Miller, his sister, June Neis and two brothers, David and Bob Miller.
