Frances Autumn Day, 97, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Hillcrest Covenant Church 8801 Nall Avenue, Prairie Village, Kansas 66207 on April 27, 2024. Visitation will be at 11:00 A.M. and service at 12:00 P.M. with a reception & lunch to follow.
Frances was born on September 14, 1926, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to John and Luella (DeCamp) Hopwood.
Frances "Fran" married Leopal "Lee" in 1947. They were married for almost 73 years. Both of them were born and raised in Indiana. Early in their marriage, they moved to Liberty, Missouri, where they attended William Jewell College. They moved back to Indiana in 1953 and raised their children there. In 1975 they moved to Kansas City, Missouri and then in 1987 to Half Moon Bay, California. When they retired in 1992, they made their final move, to Overland Park, Kansas, to be near their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Fran supported her husband in his Christian ministry until he retired from the ministry and the federal government. She was a pastor's wife, a kindergarten teacher, a realtor, a mail carrier, and a secretary, but worked for most years in accounting and administrative duties, within the Federal Bureau of Prisons, along with Lee.
She enjoyed many years of caring for and playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She collected dolls and antiques and loved to have family camping trips to Lake Michigan. She enjoyed crafts, making doll houses, stained glass windows, colored pencil art, puzzles, crosswords, crocheting and making sorghum molasses cookies and squash and pecan pie and her specialty, green beans with sausages.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her nine brothers and sisters and her husband Lee Day.
Frances is survived by their 3 children, Candy, Julie and Vicki.
We have no doubt about where she is and that she is happier now then she has ever been. We, however, will miss her terribly.
