Evelyn Hinkhouse

January 4, 1922 — March 5, 2013

Evelyn Elvera Hinkhouse completed her journey today, March 5, 2013. She finally reached her destination of being with her savior, Jesus Christ. Evelyn was born to Ole and Marie Nelson, on January 4, 1922, in St. James, MN. She lived there during the 20's and 30's with her brothers & sisters until she met her husband, Emery C. Hinkhouse, Jr. and shortly thereafter they married ,on January 8, 1941. Joyce was born in Minnesota and then they moved to Nevada, MO, where Audrey was born. Later, after Emery came home from the Merchant Marines, after World War II, they permanently relocated to Kansas City, Kansas and had their sons, David and Stephen.
Evelyn helped her husband run the family home building business, using the lessons of hard work and perseverance that they had both learned living through the depression, and together they enjoyed abundant mutual fulfillment. They moved several times, as they built capital for the business by using profits from houses they built and lived in together. Evelyn always cherished the time the family was young and lived on 42nd Street in the Maple Hill area. She provided love and stability for her growing family as they matured and built their own families.
Preceding Evelyn in death were her brothers, Harold, Larry, and Tony, her mother & father, her son-in-law Bob, and her first grand daughter, Sherry. Evelyn leaves behind her husband, Emery, her four children, Joyce, Audrey (Al) , David (Kathy) and Stephen (Donna), 11 grand children, 20 great-grand children, three great-great-grand children, her sister, Alice, and her brothers, Alvin & Earl.
The family would like to thank the people at Pinnacle Ridge Nursing Home for the care they provided for the last few weeks and those from Grace Hospice, who comforted her in her last hours of life.
Evelyn was a member of Abundant Life Church and her services will be at the church, at 12400 Antioch Rd, Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be at 11:30 AM-1:00 PM, Saturday, March 9 and the funeral will follow at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her church for an everlasting memorial in her name.
