Esther Hanna Murphy

Esther Davis Hanna Murphy was born Nov. 29, 1921 to Richard and Leora

Davis in Chetopa, Kansas. She lived in Coffeyville most of her life, and

attended schools there. She was graduated from Field Kindley High School

in Coffeyville in 1939. She married Sol Hanna, Jr. in 1939. Mr. Hanna died

in 1990. She then married Eldon Murphy in 1994, who died in 2004. Esther has resided at Olathe South Homestead Assisted Living facility since July of

2005 and Villa St. Francis since Sept. 2007.



Esther joined Emmanuel Baptist Church in 1956 where she was active as

Sunday School teacher and volunteer of youth committee. She and Mr.

Murphy joined First Southern Baptist Church in 1995.



She was a charter member of the Brown Mansion Auxiliary, was a Red

Cross volunteer where she helped with bloodmobile and taught a home

nursing course. She was also a member of Eastern Star. She worked as

receptionist/bookkeeper for Drs. George and George Chiropractors for 21

years.



Esther is preceded in death by her parents, Richard O. and Leora Davis, two

sisters: Kathleen Bradshaw and Louise Wachholz; and a brother, Don Davis.

She was widowed by her husband Sol Hanna, Jr. in 1990; and by her second

husband, Eldon Murphy in 2004. She is survived by a daughter,

Solene Hollingshead of Olathe, Kansas; a son, Richard Hanna and his wife,

Bobbi of McKinney, Texas; six grandchildren: Kurt Hollingshead and wife

Nicole of Edgerton, Kansas; Mark Hanna of Mustang, Oklahoma;

Kevin Hollingshead of Olathe, Kansas; Kristin Hanna of Oklahoma City,

Oklahoma; Janae Hanna-Likens and husband, Brad of Leawood, Kansas and

Hailey Hanna, a student in Fayetteville, Arkansas.



Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 6 from 6-8:00p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Blackbob Rd., Olathe, followed by a funeral service on Friday, December 7 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ford-Wulf Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland, Coffeyville, KS, where the family will receive friends an hour prior to service time. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or to the American Cancer Society.
