Esther E. Brooks, 96, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. She was born on February 19, 1926 in Rothsay, Minnesota to William and Minnie (Math) Thymian.
Esther spent her early years on a farm in western Minnesota, the oldest of eight children. When she graduated from Rothsay High School in 1944, the war was going strong. Feeling the need to help, she went to work for Western Union and was transferred to Los Angeles. While there she met a certain
young sailor named Jim Brooks, who was stationed in San Diego. One night, he and his buddy decided to check things out in LA where they went to a roller-skating rink. There Jim met Esther and the rest is history. After the war, Jim was discharged from the Navy and Esther returned home to Minnesota where they were married June 7, 1946. They lived in Minnesota for a while and then moved to Richmond, Virginia where Jim's family lived. While there, a son, Larry and two daughters, Lyn and Cindy, were born. In 1956 the family moved to Syracuse, NY because of a job change. Here another daughter, Bev, was born.
In Syracuse, the family started attending the Nazarene church where Jim and Esther surrendered their lives to Christ and began a lifelong journey of faithfulness and service to him. In 1964 the family moved to Minneapolis, MN where Esther worked for the Minneapolis Credit Bureau. Upon retirement in 1988 Jim and Esther moved to Olathe, KS to be close to their daughter Lyn who was widowed with 2 young boys. They joined College Church of the Nazarene and for the remainder of their lives enjoyed serving and fellowshipping with the friends they made there.
Esther is survived by her children, Larry (Susan) Brooks, Lynette (James) Fastnacht, Cynthia (Richard) Phelps, and Beverly (Randy) Schoening; sister Donna Taylor; eight grandchildren; 21 great- grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren.
