ESTELLA ERNESTINE KELLER passed away September 20, 2013 at Aberdeen Village, Olathe, KS, just ten days short of her 100th birthday, with her daughter and son by her side.
Ernestine was born September 30, 1913 in Hoisington, KS, the only child of Lawrence Levitt and Anna Orr Levitt. She graduated from Hoisington High School and Salt Hawk Business College.
She met Orville Lee Keller and they were married March 21, 1935. They raised their family in Hutchinson, KS and in later years moved to Fort Myers, FL. Ernestine is preceded in death by her father, mother, husband and many aunts and uncles who were like brothers and sisters to her.
She is survived by her daughter Sharon Gae Carter, Overland Park, KS, her son Gary Keller (Marilyn), Shawnee, KS, two granddaughters, Kim Thrasher (Mike), Atlanta, GA and Kelly Evans, Overland Park, KS, three grandsons, John Carter, Cape Canaveral, FL, David Keller (Dawn) Overland Park, KS and Steven Keller (Lani) Lenexa, KS, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Friday, September 27, 2013 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S Blackbob, Olathe, KS with visitation at 9:00am and services to follow at 10:00am. Burial to be held in Hutchinson, KS at the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, 5905 West 4th Avenue, Hutchinson with graveside services at 3:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Good Samaritan Fund at Aberdeen Village, 17500 W. 119th Street, Olathe, KS 66062 or to Compassionate Care Hospice, 10200 W. 75th Street, Suite 100, Shawnee Mission, KS 66204.
Early in her marriage Ernestine worked as a secretary at Dufek Oil Company in Hutchinson and after her children came along, she became a full-time mother. She was active in school activities with her children at the First Christian Church in Hutchinson and Fort Myers. In February of this year, she transferred her church membership to the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection. She was also active in the Lions Club, Amaranth, White Shrine and Eastern Star.
Ernestine moved to Olathe in 2009 to be near family. She made many new friends at Aberdeen Village and participated in their activities and even had pictures of some of her crafts chosen for the "Art is Ageless" calendar. All her family and friends will miss her smile and love.
