Ernest H. Cooper

Ernest "Ernie" Harold Cooper, 77, of Olathe, passed away on October 10, 2020 at Olathe Medical Center.

He was born on November 21, 1942 in Independence, MO., spent a large part of his childhood in Buckner, MO., and was raised in Lake Lotawana, MO.

He was a lifetime member of Earl Collier American Legion Post #153, who supported him to the position of National Alternate Executive Committeeman. He was also a charter member of Post #153 Legion Riders and was also a supporter of the Patriot Guard.

He was a dedicated member of the 40/8 veteran's organization. Again, being a strong supporter of veterans, he achieved the high office of National Sous Chef de Chemin de Fer.

Other organizations he was active with include the Noon Optimist Club, Olathe Eagles and the Abdallah Shrine.

Grace United Methodist Church in Olathe was his home for spiritual enrichment. He was strong in his faith and was comfortable in his preparation to walk with his Lord and Savior.

Ernie proudly served this great country as an E-5, 2nd class Bosun's Mate in the U.S. Navy beginning in February 1963 and was honorably discharged in February 1968. He went on to serve on the Lenexa Police Department until 1970 and spent many years as a civil servant, retiring in 2005 from the City of Olathe as the Senior Plans Examiner.

Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Suzanne, his daughter, Stacy (Mo) and his son, Stephen (Pam), grandsons Matthew (Taylor), Bronson (Aubrie) and Zachary (Alicia), sisters Mary Jayne (Bob), Debbie (Ed) and brother Kevin (Brigitte). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews as well as a handful of people who were close at heart and considered part of the family.

Preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Georgine and brothers Joseph II and John.
