Elmer Glenn Bonar

Elmer “Glenn” Bonar, 85, of Gardner, passed away on September 9, 2024 at Olathe Hospice House. 

He was born on June 6, 1939 to Ellis and Aria Bonar in Gardner, Kansas. 

Glenn proudly served our country in the US Air Force, and was honorably discharged in 1961.

He devoted his life and legacy to farming on the family farm in Gardner, KS, from the time he was 8 years old. He took care of his family, neighbors and friends. A soft heart was behind a sometimes gruff exterior. 

Glenn was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gardner and served on the various city, county, and school district boards seeking to make his part of the world a better place. 

He is survived by his loving children, Laura (Eric) Gourley and Jim (Laura) Bonar, grandchildren, Heather (Darren) Hall, Brent Gillespie, Megan (Brock) Mueller, Jacie Bonar, Nicole Bernard, Angie Gourley, Brandon (Liz) Gourley and great grandchildren, Kaylynn and Abigail Hall, Lincoln Bernard, Connor and Blaine Gourley and Luke and Norah Gourley.  

His wife, of 64 years, Janet, passed away September 12, 2024 and now joins him at home in heaven with the Lord. 

Private services will be held, with burial in the Gardner Cemetery.

Glenn spent many years coaching and umpiring in Gardner, so in lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the City of Gardner Parks and Recreation Scholarship Fund, 120 E. Main, Gardner, KS 66030, so kids can participate in sports even in lean economic times.

Glenn and Janet did everything together, all the way to the end of their lives. They leave a proud and loving legacy to their family.
