Elma Hatcher

Elma Fern (Bruns) Hatcher passed away at the age of 77 on July 26, 2019 at Olathe Hospice House, Olathe, KS. She was born October 21, 1941 in Millville, MO and the family moved to Orrick, MO where she attended Orrick High School and graduated in 1959. Fern attended Missouri Teachers College, now known as Central Missouri State University. There she met the love of her life, Robert Hatcher of Kansas City, MO. After a brief courtship, they were married on November 20, 1962. They started their family with the birth of their daughter Susan in 1965. They were blessed with three additional children, Darrin, Carrie, and John. Her family enjoyed the rewards of her excellent cooking and was famous for her fried chicken, cinnamon rolls, pies and homemade ice cream. She also had a passion for flowers and was known for her stunning backyards.

She is preceded in death by her parents Imogene and Afton Bruns and her husband Robert Hatcher. She is survived by her sister Patsy Groom of Lee's Summit, MO and brother Arnold Bruns, Jackson, TN as well as her four children Susan Staggenborg, Mead, CO, Darrin Hatcher, Paola, KS, Carrie Shepard, Boerne, TX, and John Hatcher, Springhill, KS. Fern was blessed with eight grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She showed great strength and courage but will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
