ELIZABETH B. JONES-KETNER, of Lakeview Village in Lenexa, KS , passed away September 18, 2007 nine days before her 100th bithday. She was born September 27, 1907 in Kansas City, MO to James and Agnes Brown. She was a resident of Kansas City, MO, until moving to Olathe in 1980 where she lived until 1996, when she moved to the retirement center in Lenexa. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 21, at 11:00 a.m. at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Blackbob Rd., Olathe. The family will receive friends an hour prior to service time. A private burial will follow in the family section of Mount Washington Cemetery, Independence, MO .
She is survived by her four children and thier spouses; Betty and Lloyd Taylor and Sally and Ray Bowman, of Olathe, KS, David and Jean Jones of Grove City, PA, and Phyllis and Rand Michael of Portland, OR . She has 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Elizabeth is also survived by 2 step-sons Francis and Doris Ketner of Olathe and Jerald and Sue Ketner of Dodge City, KS , their 4 children and 7 grandchildren. Elizabeth's parent's and six brothers and sisters all preceded her in death.
On July 7th and 8th of 2007, a family reunion was held as a a birthday celebration of her 100th year. There were 83 family members present from many states in the U.S. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She had a great love for children and will be remembered by many who were taught by her in Sunday School over the years, or read the wonderful stories she wrote for them in Sunday School literature and through her 28 children's books about Jesus. She had a great love of nature and the out-of-doors, which were often in her writings.
She is listed in World's Who's Who of Contemporary Authors in 1974, Who's Who in the Midwest in 1978, Who's Who of American Women in 1983, and Marquis Who's Who of Women in 2007. She continued her writing in her retirement years until her eyesight failed.
