Elizabeth (Liz) Hutcheson, 65, of Mission, KS, went to be with her Lord on October 16, 2011 after a short but courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
She was born on March 31, 1946, in Topeka, KS, to Rev. Thomas and Marjorie Hutcheson of Denison, KS. In 1949, her family moved to the island of Cyprus, where her parents were missionary teachers.
Following her childhood in Cyprus, Liz graduated from Wichita Heights High School in 1964. She then graduated from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA.
Liz dedicated her career to protecting and advocating for children. She worked as a social worker in Jackson County, MO; at the Lighthouse in Kansas City, MO; and in Clay County, MO. She also facilitated adoption of children from Korea. Upon her retirement in 2003, Liz worked part time at the Sylvester Powell Community Center in Mission, KS.
Liz was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sister Carlene Hutcheson; brother Tom Hutcheson and wife Sue; niece Christi Hutcheson; niece Karen Montemayor, and husband Jim; nephew Jim Hutcheson; grandniece Rachel Montemayor; and grandnephews Luke and Nate Montemayor. Her sense of humor, godly spirit and kind heart will be missed by her many relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Pioneer Girls NeKaMo Camp – Liz Hutcheson Fund, or the Foundation Fighting Blindness.
