Elizabeth Helen Hawkins passed away in her home on July 29, 2013. Bets was born July 9, 1931 to Charles and Bertha Bradford. She graduated from Olathe High school in 1950. On January 17, 1953 she married James Maynard Hawkins. On December 20, 1954 she gave birth to her son, Mike. On Valentine's Day 1958, she had her daughter Patricia.
Bets worked for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 25 years as a telephone operator. In 1984, she retired. Bets and her husband Maynard were members of the Olathe saddle club for many years and were members of St Paul's Catholic Church of Olathe for over 50 years. After retirement, Bets enjoyed traveling, ceramics, crafts, quilting, dancing, shopping, listening to bands, and chatting with her friends. Bets also spent time serving with the Salvation Army Auxiliary . Bets and her husband were very active in their children and grandchildren s lives. Her door was always open to her friends and family. She loved cooking and baking and no day was complete with out a "sit down dinner," especially on Sundays.
She is preceded in death by her husband James Maynard Hawkins, son Mike Hawkins, daughter Patsy Manson, her parents Bertha and Charles Bradford, her siblings, Bud, Charles, William, and Mary. She is survived by her son in-law Dwight Manson of Louisburg, her grandchildren Jamie Ballard (Scottie) of Olathe, Dustin Manson (Tiffeny) of Drexel, Mo, and 5 great-grandchildren Bo Ballard, Taylor, Gavin, Brylee, and Carter Manson.
