Edward Alvin York

December 14, 1949 — March 6, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Alvin York, 75, who left us on March 6, 2025, in Sun City Center, Florida. Born on December 14, 1949, Edward, known as "Ed," dedicated 23 years to the U.S. Army, retiring as a Sergeant First Class. His military career was marked by a proud lineage as a direct descendant of Sgt. Alvin York, a noted WWI hero. Ed embodied the values of honor and courage throughout his life.

Ed leaves behind his beloved wife, Stephanie, with whom he shared over 50 years of memories. Together, they navigated life's challenges, demonstrating a bond that was both inspiring and a love story worthy of the silver screen. To his family, he was known as "Pop Pop," a title that spoke to the deep affection his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren felt for him. While the sorrow of his passing weighs heavily on their hearts, they find solace in the countless cherished memories that bring comfort during this difficult time. Pop Pop's love was fierce and all-encompassing, offering unwavering support and affection to his dear ones.

Ed's personality was a beacon of warmth and he possessed a quick wit that endeared him to all. His ability to love abundantly was reflected in his deep connections with friends. An avid golfer, he cherished countless rounds spent with his teammates, The Shanks. He held deep appreciation for the love and friendship cultivated among them over the years.

Tragically, just 12 hours before his passing, Ed's oldest brother, Bill, also departed this world. Now, five of the ten York siblings are together again, a reunion that brings both sorrow and solace.

A memorial service will take place Friday, April 4, 2025 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Black Bob Rd., Olathe Kansas 66062. The service time is 2:00pm.
