Edward A. Useldinger, 91, of Olathe, KS passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 20th, 2019 at Olathe Medical Center. The family suggests contributions to the Church.
Ed was born March 9, 1927 in Kansas City, KS to Joseph and Anna Useldinger. He graduated early from Wyandotte High School in 1945. Immediately after his 18th birthday, he enlisted in the Coast Guard. He served during WWII on the US Algonquin cutter ship in the North Atlantic stationed out of Reykjavik, Iceland. After returning home, he met the love of his life Theresa Banks and they were wed May 16, 1950.
They made their home in Kansas City, KS and were longtime members of Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church. Ed worked at TWA as an engine maintenance planner for 38 years, retiring in 1990. They moved to Olathe in 1998, joining Prince of Peace Catholic Church where they were active in the Friends of St. Anthony Senior Group. Ed was known as "Slaw Man", having prepared and served slaw at the Lenten fish frys with the Knights of Columbus at church for many years. A recent highlight was his trip on the Honor Flight to Washington, DC in May 2014 to see the WWII Memorial. Ed enjoyed talking about his time in the service, traveling with TWA, and spending time with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his wife Theresa, his parents, 3 brothers, 4 sisters, and son Fr. Karl Useldinger.
He is survived by daughter Linda Eatinger (Dale), son Gary Useldinger (Cate Korte, MD), son Jim Useldinger (Sina), daughter Lori Ashford (Rolf Driesnack), one sister Eleanor Stricko, grandchildren; Katie, Jared, Ryan, Megan, Clint, Cara, Cailin, and Cole, and 4 great grandchildren.
