EDWARD MICHAEL YOUNGER
Edward Michael Younger, age 71, died in his sleep at his home on January 13, 2016. Ed was born on May 14,1944, in Kansas City, MO. His family moved to Overland Park when Ed was 10 years old.
Lifelong friendships were forged first at Queen of the Holy Rosary and then Bishop Miege where he excelled in football, basketball and baseball prior to graduation in 1963. Ed went to Northwestern Missouri State University where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball and then graduated in 1969 with a B.S. degree in Business.
Open heart surgery at age 20 changed his life forever. Observing good health habits and daily physical exercise became an integral part of his life. He liked to recall his mountain biking experiences in Colorado but playing golf became his first passion in Ed's later years. Rooting for his Denver Broncos, however, ran a close second.
Ed worked in commercial real estate for 45 years. He was Vice President of Kroh Brothers Denver Office and then President of Konover Management Corporation in West Hartford, CT. Ed retired from Kessinger-Hunter in KC, MO in 2012.
Ed's financial expertise and property management experience enabled him to play a vital, active role in the life of the Cedar Creek Community, serving on the Boards of Directors for several years and as a Links Neighborhood Representative. The owners in the Links will be forever indebted to Ed for spearheading the change from buffalo grass to fescue!!
His father and mother, Thomas F. and Mary Agnes Younger preceded Ed in death. He is survived by his wife Susan Ewert Younger of the home, his children, Ami Thomsen (Tim), Aurora, CO and Chad Younger, Platte City, stepdaughters Letia and Bria Payne, Hartford, CT, stepsons David Ewert, Topeka and Daniel Ewert, Rockwall, TX, grandchildren Reese and Brody Thomsen, Aaliyah and Cali Younger, Dakota and Hunter Ewert and Claire and Sarah Ewert, his brother Tom Younger (Cheryl), Overland Park and his sister Kathy Karson, Sedalia, MO, his cousins Toni Jean Bink and Connie Boucher, as well as nieces and nephews.
Ed was a faithful friend, a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was known as "Grandpa Louise" to his Denver grandchildren and "Grumpy Ed" to the girls in Texas! He LOVED chocolate, unfrosted cake and ALL ice cream and shared those loves with all his grandchildren.
In keeping with Ed's wishes—actually mandate—there will be no formal memorial service, but friends are invited to join the family for a Gathering at Cedar Creek Swim & Racket Club, 25775 W 103rd Street, Olathe 66061, 3-5 P.M. on Sunday, January 17.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Edward M. Younger Scholarship Fund at Bishop Miege or to University of Kansas Hospital Cardiology.
Ed requested his ashes be released on Vail Pass, an area dear to his heart and a place that he returned to often. The family will honor that request when this year's winter snow melts.
