Edward F.A. Gagnon

Mr. Edward "Eddie" F. A. Gagnon, 89, of Olathe, KS passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at Olathe Medical Center surrounded by his entire family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Parkinson's Association.

Eddie was born Dec 12, 1918 in Salem, Massachusetts, and grew up with three siblings during the Depression years. He was a college graduate and had a strong work ethic which he instilled in his children and grandchildren. His main goal in life was to provide for his family so that his wife of 57 years, the love of his life, and his children were provided for.

Eddie was loved and will be missed by his many friends that he worked with or met throughout his life. His long working career and association with various organizations demonstrated his desire to serve others. He retired from 25 years in the Air Force - where he was known as "Sarge" - worked and retired from the Postal Service and the Olathe Police Department. Early on in his life, he served as a volunteer fireman, a reserve police officer, school crossing guard and worked in the Burns Drug Store in Olathe. He loved meeting people and never met anyone that he could not strike up a conversation with - no one was a stranger to him. While a mail carrier, he even carried lollypops for the children on his route and dog biscuits for the dogs. Many of the people that he encountered throughout his life he remembered with birthdays cards.

His was a life member of the American Legion and the Retired Enlisted Association and a member of St. Paul's Church, the National Association of Letter Carrier's and the Air Force Sergeant's Association.

He enjoyed raising various animals and often commented that he would have enjoyed living on a small farm. He worked diligently tending a beautiful garden in which he grew bushels of tomatoes and strawberries as well as other items which he would share with his neighbors and co-workers.

He is survived by Lucille, his wife of 57 years, his daughter, Suzanne Gower, his son, Kenneth Gagnon, four grandchildren - Matthew Gower, Jennifer (Gagnon) Parks and husband Jason, Daniel Gower, Christopher Gagnon - and one great-daughter Savannah Gower. His extended family includes Laura Reyes and Lisa Wisdom. He frequently reminded us how special we were.

His family will always remember the way "Pepere" would make them laugh with his many unique expressions. He had a strong love and commitment for flag and country and was the family leader and caretaker. His memory and his values are engrained in our hearts forever.
