Our mother has been like a beautiful rose. The fragrance of her Godly life will live on forever in our hearts and the lives of the many people she touched. Some of the petals of the rose were as follows:
Mother left a petal of creativity. She could take nothing and make it into something beautiful. She could run a Vacation Bible School on a shoestring.
Mother left a petal of hospitality. Everyone always felt welcomed and loved at their home. As a Pastor's wife, she would always be prepared in case a new family came to church on Sunday, she would have enough dinner to invite them home for lunch.
Mother left of petal of Prayer. Mother was a woman of prayer! If there was someone in need mother would pray. She prayed daily for her family and friends, close or far away. She had children and grand and great- grandchildren that lived far away but she knew that God could be close to them when she couldn't.
Mother left petals of contentment. No matter what kind of a parsonage we would move into she knew how to make it look warm and inviting to everyone. We learned how to be content wherever God planted us and to blossom for Him.
Mother left petals of Laughter.
No matter where she was she always seemed to make people happy. She walked into a room and it was brightened with her smile.
Mother left petals of Forgiveness.
Forgiveness has never been one of my virtures but it was Mother and Daddy's.
No matter what the hurt was Mom and Dad would pray about the situation until forgiveness would come. They would look for something positive that would come from the situation until they were at peace.
Mother left petals of Love.
Many of you here only knew her as Grandma or Nani. She loved each of you as her very own. Even though she couldn't care for and interact as much as she had in years past with most of you, even baby William could sense her love.
She loved all ages. She shared that love every Sunday afternoon at the nursing homes visiting the shut ins, taking them the church bulletins and Sunday School papers.
In remembering our mother, we recall the 31st chapter of the book of Proverbs. A few of these attributes include: having the confidence of her family; brings good, not harm; provides for her family; works vigorously; opens her heart to the poor and extends hands to the needy; her strength and dignity assures her of happy time; she speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction, and "…her children rise up and call her blessed."
The Proverbs woman rises early, works vigorously, watches over her household and is not idle.
Her care and concern continues even now with her ministry to those who are home-bound. She provides them with items from her church that helps them stay in touch with the world that would otherwise pass them by.
Proverbs 31:31 says it best. "The (Mother) who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her the reward she has earned and let her works bring her praise in the (community)."
Mother will be greatly missed by all, but most of all by her loving family.
