Edith R. Swickard, 91, Olathe, KS (formerly of Mission, KS) passed away Friday, August 17, 2007, in Merriam, KS. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and/or the church.
Edith was born January 7, 1916, in Waverly, KS. She was a graduate of Onaga High School in Onaga, KS and attended business college in Lawrence, KS. She married A.G. Swickard November 1, 1939, in Lawrence, KS. He preceded her in death in 1960. They made their home in Johnson County in 1957 where she lived until her death. She retired from the U.S. Postal service in 1982 at the Shawnee Mission office.
She was a member of Countryside Christian Church and the Order of Eastern Star. She was an avid Bridge player and club member, and proud life-long Democrat and Kansas Jayhawk fan. She was a volunteer at Shawnee Mission Medical Center for 25 years.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; William and Mattie Florance, six siblings.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Mike Fitzgerald; two grandsons, John and Gregory Fitzgerald, numerous nieces and nephews and a legion of friends.
