Edith L. Steiner

February 28, 1947 — May 25, 2024

A visitation for Edith L. Steiner (Johnson), 77-year-old former Buffalo, Wyoming resident who passed away May 25th in Overland Park, Kansas, due to complications post-surgery, will be held at Penwell-Gabel in Olathe, Kansas on Friday, May 31st from 4 to 6 p.m.

Edie was born on February 28, 1947, in Sheridan, Wyoming to Vonley and Nellie Johnson. She grew up and went to school in Buffalo, graduating from Johnson County High School with the class of 1965. She was married on October 7th, 1965, in Buffalo to Steve Steiner and they lived in Hawaii for three months before Steve was deployed to Vietnam. Edie returned to Buffalo where Steve joined her after being discharged from the military. They moved to Laramie, Wyoming in 1971 where Steve was stationed with the Wyoming Highway Patrol. In 1980, Steve and Edie returned to Buffalo where she worked in the school district until she retired in 1994 as the school district foodservice director. Steve and Edie moved to Adrian, Missouri in 2007 to be close to family prior to returning to Buffalo in 2014. Soon after Steve's passing in 2019, Edie moved to Olathe, Kansas where she lived until her death.

Edie's passion was spending time with family and friends. She always supported her son's activities as they were growing up. At times she was even accused of participating in her son's "activities" which got her in trouble with Steve on numerous occasions. She cherished spending time with all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, making many lasting memories over the years. Edie never met a stranger in her life and had an uncanny ability to make a friend wherever she went. She would strike up conversations with anyone and made people feel at ease when talking to her. She had a selfless and caring heart and often took on the role of someone's adoptive mom or grandma.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Vernie Brooks and brother Bill Johnson.

She is survived by three sons, Ron Steiner (Suzanne) of Sheridan, WY; Von Steiner (Amy) of Olathe, KS; and Lane Robinson of Cody, WY; two sisters-in-law, Jane Johnson of Mesa, AZ; and Glenda Adams (Neal) of Post Falls, ID and their adult children Gary, Tracy, Tonya and Neal; two nieces, Sharon Redden (Paul) of Albuquerque, NM; and Bonnie Johnson of Phoenix, AZ; one nephew, Duane Johnson of Mesa, AZ; five grandchildren, Stephenie Garrett (Justin), Brian Steiner, Jana Banka (Clay), Jacob Steiner (Katie) and Jared Steiner (Kylie); three great-grandchildren, Kyrian, Huxton and Ruby.

Donations in Edie's memory may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or the animal foundation of your choice.
