Duke Francis Depew, 72, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 8, 2021. He was born on April 4, 1949 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada to Francis and Dorothy (Duncan) Depew.
Duke was born in Hamilton, Ontario, and his family moved to Miami, Florida at a young age. He was naturalized at 7 years old, and attended school in Coral Gables, Florida. After graduation, Duke joined the Navy and served for 6 years, until he was honorable discharged. Shortly after, his beautiful daughter, Shannon, was born.
His career success began when he went to work for Peter Kiewit and Sons. Soon after he met Catherine, they were married in Lake Tahoe in 1984. During his time with Kiewit, he had several job advancements with 23 moves in 25 years. Duke ended his career in Olathe, Kansas where he was able to retire after 35 years with Keiwit.
Duke had numerous friends and so many loving people in his life, "millions". Duke never met a stranger; he was kind, generous, and grateful for all of you! Duke loved riding his Harley, golfing, playing pool with his buddies, dancing with Catherine, and taking her to NASCAR races. They loved going out for Mexican food. He named himself, "EL Dukay!" He will be best remembered by his favorite saying, "Have I told you that I Love you today?"
Duke is survived by his loving wife, Catherine Depew; daughter, Shannon (Marty) Marcussen of Mullica Hill, NJ; grandsons, Ean and Mason Marcussen of Mullica Hill, NJ; sister-in-laws, Elizabeth (Cliff) Reichelt of Great Falls, MT and Maureen (Ron) Biela of Newark, CA; brother-in-laws, Brian (Julie) Lindsay of Sparks, NV and John (Jodie) Lindsay of Sparks, NV; as well as numerous nieces and nephews all over the country.
He was preceded in death by his parents Francis and Dorothy Depew.
The family will recieve guest for a visitation from 5:00-7:00 pm on Monday, October 18, 2021,at Penwell Gabel's Olathe Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Olathe Memorial Cemetery, 738 N. Chestnut St, Olathe, KS 66061.
