Dr. Robert "Bob" E. Hull

Dr. Robert (Bob) Ernest Hull began his life in Dawson, Minnesota, on March 22, 1954, and he went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 10, 2024, early in the morning. His family surrounded him. In the days leading up to his passing, several family members and friends were in contact with Bob.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Bessie (Howland) Hull, sister Becky MacLearn, brother-in-law Bob MacLearn, brother-in-law Phillip Bedwell, and nephew Kenneth Bedwell.

Bob is survived by his wife Marsha Hull of Olathe, KS; sons Mike Hull (Kristen and Grandson Judah) of Fargo, ND, and Brett Hull (Kelly) of Watseka, IL; brothers and sisters Raymond Hull of Olathe, KS, Wally Hull (Caroline) of Plymouth, MN, Nell Hull of Olathe, KS, and Harlan (Charla) Hull of Brooklyn Park, MN, along with several nieces and nephews.

Dr. Hull spent his professional years as a servant leader in multiple positions throughout Kansas, Iowa, and Illinois. He met his wife, Marsha Howk, in the registration line during their sophomore year at Mid-America Nazarene University. They fell in love and married in the summer before their senior year of college.

Dr. Hull received his undergraduate degree from Mid-America Nazarene University in Olathe, his graduate degrees from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas, and his doctoral degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

His life's work centered on education, and he held teacher, principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent positions in different school districts across Iowa and Kansas. Dr. Hull was the Division Chief of Training and Safety for the Olathe Fire Department and Director of the Kansas Center for Safe and Prepared Schools. For Olivet Nazarene University, Dr. Hull held the positions of dean of education and director of emergency management.

During his retirement, Dr. Hull was Director Emeritus of Emergency Management at Olivet Nazarene University. This position allowed him to stay connected to the education world while traveling with his wife, Marsha, to his beloved children's families. Bob and Marsha loved the beach and the freedom to travel to different locations while enjoying each other's company. Bob and Marsha loved taking cruises around islands in the Caribbean. They loved hosting and providing for their friends and family, regardless of location or circumstance.

As evident, Dr. Hull held several formal positions throughout his life. He was also active in community organizations and projects regardless of scope. The titles most cherished by Bob were husband, father, and Papa.

Bob and Marsha's lives were full of adventure and fun as they navigated life together. The sweetest part of their lives was having their sons. Watching them grow into adulthood was Bob and Marsha's greatest gift. As their sons grew, they loved sharing vacations with friends to different destinations. Several active outdoor activities involved the Hulls with their friends and family during the boys' years growing up.

Bob loved his boys, instilling a Christ-centered faith and a lifelong desire to learn. Both boys have graduate degrees, which stem from the influence of their father.

Bob and Marsha intentionally and lovingly accepted their daughters-in-law, Kristen and Kelly, into the Hull family with open and loving arms. Bob loved playing games with his daughters-in-law and finding ways to celebrate them and their lives.

Papa Bob would dote on his grandson Judah continuously. Together, they loved to play golf, throw the football around, play all types of games, build rockets, and sometimes those rockets launched. They cheered on the Chiefs and loved M&Ms and rhubarb pie.

Instead of flowers, Dr. Bob Hull's heartfelt wish was to contribute to creating a Leadership Center at True North Church, which is the church where Bob's son Mike Hull is the lead pastor. Dr. Hull was passionate about providing opportunities for people to grow. He believed that when people have access to great resources and welcoming space, they are empowered to deepen their relationship with God and engage more effectively in the world around them.

The vision for the Leadership Center is to create a dedicated space in the new True North Church building filled with resources for those who share Dr. Hull's passion for growth and community leadership. Bob believed strongly in the calling to make an impact where we live, work, and play, and this center will continue his mission.
