DR. MIRIAM JEAN HALL
Born January 27, 1934, went home to be with the Lord on January 9, 2006. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 13, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Blackbob Rd., Olathe. A funeral service will be held on Saturday January 14, at 2:00 p.m. at the Lenexa Central Church of the Nazarene, 12600 W. 87th Street, Lenexa, KS. Interment, Oaklawn Memorial Park, Olathe. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Miriam J. Hall Lectureship, c/o Nazarene Theological Seminary, 1700 E. Meyer Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64131.
Miriam was born in Dayton, Ohio to Enoch and Sabra Van Zant. She graduated from Trotwood High School, then received her BA in Education from Olivet Nazarene College (now Olivet Nazarene University). Miriam earned her Masters in Education from Northern Colorado University, and received her Doctorate from Olivet Nazarene University.
She began her career in education as an elementary school teacher in Illinois and then Colorado, becoming a Reading Coordinator for Jefferson County Schools, grades K thru 12. Miriam was elected the first Director of Children's Ministries for the International Church of the Nazarene in 1977. She served in this capacity until her retirement in 1998. During this time she also taught several courses in Children's Ministries at N.T.S.
Miriam was the author of three published works; New Directions for Children's Ministries, Jesus the Children's Friend, and If I Were A Child Today.
She is survived by her loving family; her husband of 53 years, Herbert E. Hall, Olathe, her daughter Amy (David) Story of Olathe, her brother Glenn (Billie) Van Zant of Oklahoma, her sister Carolyn Ferguson and sister-in-law Helen Van Zant , both of Colorado, her cousin, Janetta (Russ) Clark of Florida, and host of nieces and nephews. She was affectionately known as "Grandma Mimi" to her five grandchildren: Zachary, Nicholas, Anthony, Michael, and Abigail. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Van Zant, and her nephew John Mark Van Zant.
Her life was devoted to her family, and to her ministry. Her legacy will remain in the many hearts and lives she touched.
