Dr. Daniel Kipkemei arap Song'ony died of a heartache early Wednesday, July 16, 2008 in Olathe, KS . Burial will be at a later date in Nandi Hills, Kenya in the near future. The family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association.
Born February 20, 1954 in Kapchemoiywo, Kenya where he completed his primary education at Kapchemoiywa Primary School attaining the highest score on the Certificate of Primary Education. with 36 points then completed his secondary education at St. Patrick's Iten Secondary School. He had a full scholarship at Trinity College in Deerfield, IL where he earned a BA. He worked for the Office of the President of Kenya as a District Officer and Assistant Secretary. He received a Master of Economics from Roosevelt University, Chicago, IL. He worked for the Kenya Institute of Administration, Kabete, Kenya and the University of Nairobi as a lecturer. Having a desire to continue his academic interests he earned a Masters Degree and Ph.D. in Economics from the New School for Social Research in New York, NY through a Leadership Scholarship form USAID. He is coauthor of Principles of Macroeconomics and Principles of Microeconomics (CAT Publishing, 2003) and author of the Socio-economic Impact of HIV/AIDS in Sub-Sahara Africa (CAT Publishing, 2007).
Surviving are his wife Nanette, daughters Chaphni and Tazrae, and son Trepton. His brothers John Kibiwot, Alex Kipchirchir, Kalo Song'ony and Cherono Maswai. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Tarakwo Yego, sisters Bot Kiptuwei and Chemeli Koech.
