Doyle was born and raised in Sublette, KS, where he graduated from high school in 1956. During those years, he excelled in basketball, and found his love for all sports. He attended College at Southwestern Louisiana University in Lafayette. In 1959, he married Millie Ward. They shared a happy life built on true love and respect for 50 years. Two boys, Brian and Bret, were born of this union and nothing made Doyle happier than coaching them in their favorite sports.
Doyle's work life began with the U.S. Postal Service in Garden City, KS. He joined the Kansas National Guard in 1961, took basic training in Fort Leonardwood, MO, attended Officer Candidate School and left the service in 1970, honorably discharged as a 2nd Lieutenant, US Army Reserve.
In 1969, Doyle moved his family to Olathe, KS to work for the FFA as an air traffic controller. Not only did he direct the flights of others, he got his pilots license and flew planes of his own. After the strike, in 1981, Doyle returned to work for the Postal Service in Shawnee Mission, KS, specializing in bulk mailings until retiring in 1991. Not being one to sit idle or long, he worked part-time for IMS of Grandview, continuing to direct mailing until his illness in December of 2008.
Though a dedicated soldier and employee, nothing could compare to the enjoyment Doyle found in his family, friends, and his favorite past-time...sports! Doyle coached Brian and Bret's baseball and basketball teams in the early years, and later enjoyed going to the KU and Chiefs games with the boys and tailgating with friends.
There always seemed to be a swimming pool filled with grandkids in Doyle's' life. His boys were his boys, but grandkids were something special. Whether cheering from the sidelines or behind home plate, applauding a dance, a cheer, a well-executed cannonball, or the first splash in the pool, Grandpa was always there. Every accomplishment of "his babies" was a personal moment for Grandpa Doyle.
Retirement years are often cut much too short, and that is certainly the case for Doyle, but everyday was lived to the fullest. Every life touched by him was truly blessed.
He is survived by his wife, Millie, his sons Brian (Nancy) Yount and Bret (Nancy) Yount, his grandchildren; Kayla, Ty, Brittan, Abbey, Tanner, Marlie, Max and Karlie, mother-in-law Velma Ward, sister-in-laws Jean Yount, Norma Yount, Pat Yount, and LoLetta Ward. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Margie Nelson, his brothers William, Willard, Dale, Vernal and Floyd Yount, his brother-in-law Don Ward, his sister-in-law Karen Yount, and his father-in-law Johnnie Ward.
