Doyle K. Cavin

April 28, 1936 — November 13, 2020

Doyle Cavin (84) of Overland Park, Kansas passed away at his home on Friday evening from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

He was born and raised on a family farm in Church Hill, Tennessee. He married Maggie (Margaret Land) Cavin in Knoxville, Tennessee in the summer of 1957. He attended Church Hill High School and the University of Tennessee and played on the football teams of both schools.

With great math skills, he taught himself how to program one of the first six computers in the nation at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Since computer programming was not established at that time, he was given the job title of Junior Computer. His hard work earned him multiple executive positions that took him all over the country and all over the world during his 40-year career in the computer industry.

Awaiting Doyle's arrival in Heaven are his first child, daughter Kim (Cavin) Larson and his first grandchild, baby Scott Larson; brother Donald Cavin; parents Cecile and Carl Cavin and many more dear family members and loved ones. He will be buried beside his family farm in Tennessee.

Left to carry his memories are wife of 63 years, Maggie Cavin; daughter Lisa Cavin-Wainscott of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren Jessica Heine (Jason) of Olathe, Kansas; Brittany Larson of Washington, DC; Ashley Larson (Josh Rattray) of Fishers, Indiana; and Dalton Wainscott of Overland Park, Kansas; great-grandchildren Reegan, Gavin, Emerson and Blakely Heine, Kenna and Corbin Rattray, several nephews and cousins.

Doyle is remembered for his great generosity, integrity, forgiving spirit, hard work, and sense of humor. Most of all, he wanted to be remembered for loving his family so very much. He joyfully took care of his immediate and extended family (and friends) in various ways and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone.

Maggie and Lisa would also like to publicly thank the staff of Interim Home Health & Hospice for their dedication and compassion. Stephanie, Mary, Stephanie, & Janelle lovingly cared for Doyle and doggedly problem-solved every issue until resolved, while showing concern for our well-being.

There is no treatment for pulmonary fibrosis. If you are so moved, we encourage you to make a contribution to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in Doyle's memory so others may benefit: ¬ https://bit.ly/DoyleCavin
