Douglas George Peterson

November 21, 1958 — March 3, 2020

Douglas George Peterson

Doug was born November 21, 1958, in Rochester, Pennsylvania and passed away March 3, 2020 in Kansas City, Missouri.

Doug was an accomplished athlete and scholar. He was a graduate of Lawrence High School, 1977; Northwestern University, 1982; and Kansas University School of Law, 1988. He was awarded a full scholarship to Northwestern University in track.

In 1977, Doug was the Kansas High School State Champion. At Northwestern, he was a two-time Big-Ten Champion in the half-mile. He was selected and recognized as a member of the 1981 All-American Track and Field Team. Additionally, he was voted the most valuable track member, and received the Captain's Award.

Following graduation, Doug moved to Chicago. In 1984, he participated in the Los Angeles Olympic Trials held in the Memorial Colosseum. He was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Chicago and ran, through their affiliation, races in Europe. Doug continued to run as a hobby for the rest of his life.

Doug practiced law in Wichita, Topeka, and the Kansas City area. His hobbies included writing (he authored a book and many missives). He also enjoyed creating music trivia CD's and playing chess.

Despite his academic and athletic achievements, Doug remained humble and "understated" as described by one of his school pals. He was a listener by nature, letting others take "center stage". For these and other personality traits, Doug was well-liked. "A great guy" were words describing Doug by another friend. He lived a modest lifestyle; he had very few material possessions. He was thankful, classy, persistent, kind-to-all, and fun to be around. To summarize, "If you were lucky enough to know him, you were lucky enough".

Doug loved his family and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Joan Peterson, and his niece Jenna, and is survived by his his loving family David, Merrie, Joel, Jim, Jane, Murphy, Gene, Jeneane, his cousins, and extended family Stacey, Rachel, and Amy. God Bless You, Doug. We miss you!
