Douglas James Oliver, a.k.a. "Big Dog," "Doogie," "Ollie," 63, passed away on December 18, 2014. A celebration of Doug's life will be held at Shadow Glen Country Club in Olathe, KS on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 11am.
Doug was born and raised in Newton, Kansas on May 12, 1951. He attended Culver Military Academy from 1967 to 1969, where he met his wife, Betsy. They went on to attend the University of Kansas together and were married on August 11, 1973. He was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity.
He then attended Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA to study graphic design. In 1983, he founded his own studio, which came to be known as Douglas Oliver Design Office, that went on to design work for Fortune 500 companies, major universities, institutions, and foundations across the US, Europe, and Japan. Over the years, his work garnered many major prestigious awards, and was later chosen to be part of the Permanent Design Collection of the Library of Congress.
Doug's hobbies and passions included golf, hunting, painting, and the Kansas Jayhawks. He was greatly beloved by friends and family as a loyal friend, loving husband and a proud father.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Joanne. Along with his wife of 41 years, Betsy, he is survived by sons, Kyle and Bennett; daughter, Reilly; and grandson, Owen. If you wish to make a donation, you may donate to Grace Hospice, located at 9233 Ward Parkway Kansas City, MO 64114.
