Dorothy Elizabeth Van Daele (Mallicoat) passed away at her home on May 17, 2010 in Olathe, KS. She was born in Belton, MO to Oscar and May Mallicoat on October 20, 1919.
Dorothy attended Stilwell High School and was Valedictorian of her class in 1939. She went on to attend the State Teachers College of Pittsburg (Pittsburg State) and earned her teaching degree. She later taught at a one- room school house in Eureka, KS. She was married in 1946 to Arthur Van Daele and two years after they were married, Art and Dorothy purchased a farm on 191st and Pflumm, where they raised their four children until moving into Olathe in 2002.
Dorothy was an active member in the Johnson County community. She was actively involved with Johnson County 4-H and was the community leader of Sharon 4-H Club for 25 years. She was also recognized for her hard work and dedication for 57 years of involvement in the Spring Hill FCE. Art and Dorothy were members of Queen of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Wea, KS for 54 years before moving to Olathe.
Dorothy enjoyed many hobbies such as gardening, quilting, community service, scrapbooking, and nature watching. She was a very energetic woman who had a positive approach to everyday and was such a great person and influence.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Clarence "Dink" Mallicoat, and her sister Helen Knoche.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Arthur Van Daele, and their four children; Janice Arcuria (Eitho Castedio), Linda Jean(Fred), Stephen Wayne Van Daele, Eugene Van Daele(Mary Cuff). Also surviving are her brothers Harold Mallicoat, Howard Mallicoat, Charles Mallicoat and her sister Lillian Slusher (Mallicoat), her grandchildren Tony Arcuria, Phil Arcuria, Scott Jean, Heather Watterson (Jean), Casey Hill, Nicole Van Daele, Jacob Van Daele, and Cherrylita Castedio, her great –grandchildren Kadynce Hill and Dylynn Watterson, and a host of other family members and dear friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Children's Mercy Hospital or the Ronald McDonald House.
