DOROTHY HAZEL WILLIAMS
Dorothy Hazel Williams, born September 25, 1912 in Globe, Arizona passed away July 11, 2006 at the Olathe Medical Center. Hazel suffered a heart attack Saturday afternoon while playing bridge with her friends at the Cedar Lake Village.
Hazel moved from Arizona to Hollywood, California to complete high school where she met and later married Leonard "Spike" Williams. After a short music publication and performance career they returned to Olathe, Kansas. They resided in Olathe until Spike's death in 1980. Hazel then moved in Scottsdale, Arizona until 2002 whereupon she relocated to The Cedar Lake Retirement Village. She reacquainted herself with some old friends and met many new great residents who became treasured friends and bridge playing companions.
Spike and Hazel participated in a farm equipment business, residential building/ development and farming. She was a member of the first Olathe Hospital building committee. Her grandson Philip Harness was the first male born at the hospital in 1953. The center of Hazel's life was her family who were loved greatly and she was loved in return. She participated with all the kids' activities over the years and most recently spent two Saturdays picking vegetables with her great grandchildren.
Hazel is survived by her daughter Beverly Harness and her husband Bill of Branson, Missouri, and son Gerald E. Williams and his wife Lois of Mission Hills, Kansas. Also surviving are four grandchildren; Philip Harness, Olathe, Kansas; Pam Schaff, Overland Park, Kansas; Amy Grimm, Leawood, Kansas and Sally Ehrich, Mission Hills, Kansas. There are nine great grandchildren: John and Ashley Domony, Melissa Harness Flores, Angela Harness, Lindsey, Sarah and Peter Grimm, Caroline and Catherine Ehrich.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2006 at 3:30 p.m. at the Cedar Lake Village, 15325 S. Lone Elm Rd., Olathe, KS. Arrangements, Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Olathe Chapel.
