Dorothy (Kolar) Joan Haffey went to be with the Lord on January 9, 2021. She was born on April 22, 1936 to Joseph and Libby Kolar in Nampa, Idaho. Soon after her birth she moved to Lafayette, Colorado, where she graduated from high school. Dorothy graduated with honors from Pasadena, College (now Point Loma University) with a Bachelor's in Education. She taught elementary school in Pasadena and Berkeley, California where she was awarded a lifetime California teaching credential.
Dorothy met her husband Larry Haffey while he was serving in Navy and have since been married for a wonderful 55 years. They moved frequently while Larry was in the Navy but moved back to Pasadena following his discharge. Their son Mark was born in Pasadena in 1971. Dorothy continued to teach in the Pasadena School District for several years until Larry took a job at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab. Following that they moved to Kansas City where Larry attended Seminary. After serving in the ministry for almost 5 years, they moved to Olathe, KS where they lived for 35 years while Larry served as Computer Science Department Chair at MidAmerica Nazarene University until 2012. Larry became her full-time caregiver in 2013 following a major health issue until she passed away. In 2020 Dorothy and Larry moved to Sioux Falls, SD near their son where she passed away. Dorothy loved her church where she was a longtime member of College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe, Kansas, where she was involved in Women's Bible Study, VBS, Sunday School and Missions.
She is survived by her husband, Larry, a son, Mark, his wife, Barbara, and two grandchildren, Brooklyn and Brett all of Sioux Falls, SD. Dorothy loved her family dearly. Dorothy was a sterling wife, mother, grandmother and Christian woman. She loved Jesus supremely.
