Dorothy F (Bruegging) Day, 94, a long-time resident of Olathe, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 11th, 2016.
Dorothy was born on July 5th, 1922 in Kansas City, MO to Lawrence F. and Marguerite L. (Ratel) Bruegging.
In 1929, Dorothy and her family moved to Paris, France to help her ailing maternal grandparents conduct their small movie theater. Here is where her love for the cinema began.
In April of 1934, at age 12, the family returned from Paris, France on the SS Berengaria where they again resided in Kansas City, MO.
Dorothy graduated from St Aloysius, an all girls catholic high school, in 1940.
During the war effort she worked as a riveter. Later while employed at Richards Gebaur Air Force Base she met and fell in love with Gene V. Day of Olathe, KS to whom she married on December 26, 1956.
Dorothy will always be remembered for the undying love she had for her family.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Gene V. Day and brother Raymond E. Bruegging.
She is survived by her two children, Jeffery L. Day of Nashville, TN and Diana J. Bailey of Olathe, KS. Four grandchildren, Ashley N. (Bailey) Cherry of Shawnee, KS, Lacey J. Bailey of Olathe, Ryan H. Day and Lauren J. (Day) Rust both of Manhattan, KS, and one great grandson, Benjamin Z. Cherry of Shawnee, KS.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel funeral home in Olathe, KS with visitation from family and friends between 12:30-1:00PM. Inurnment will immediately follow at the Spring Hill Cemetery.
