Dorothy Ruth Evelyn Whannel Bowens, of Fort Dodge, Iowa passed away September 27, 2014 at Grace Gardens, in Leawood, Kansas, at the age of 99. Dorothy was born on a farm west of Traer, Iowa on April 26, 1915. She was one of ten children; seven girls and three boys. She graduated from Geneseo Consolidated High School in 1932. Dorothy married Jim Bowens in Memphis, Missouri in 1938, and they established their home in Cedar Rapids. In 1944, they moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa. She worked for the Fort Dodge Recreation office for 15 years. Dorothy and Jim enjoyed extensive traveling during their married life. They traveled to Hawaii, Ireland, California, Florida and Alaska, just to name a few. She was a life member of the Catholic Daughters.
Dorothy is survived by her three children Michael (Barb) of Glendale, Arizona, Patty Lana of Overland Park, Kansas, and John (Robin) of Peoria, Arizona; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceeded in death by her husband Jim, her parents John and Sarah Whannel, and all of her siblings.
Interment will be held in Fort Dodge, Iowa at a later date.
