Dorothy L. Ater, 89, Olathe, KS, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, December 6, 2007 in Olathe, KS. Graveside services for the family will be held at 9am Monday, December 10, 2007 at Sunset Cemetery in Manhattan, Kansas The family suggests memorial contributions to Kansas City Hospice and/or the church.
Dorothy was born March 17, 1918 in Emporia, KS to Carl and Frances Knouse. She was a graduate of Emporia High School and Emporia State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Education. She married Samuel L. Ater August 25, 1940 in Wichita, KS. She was a Home Economics school teacher and homemaker.
She was a member of Blue Valley Baptist Church and had been an active volunteer for the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop and the Olathe School District.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel L. Ater, in 1988, an infant daughter, Janet Sue Ater, in 1952, two brothers, and two sisters.
She is survived by four children, Pat Berry of Olathe, Mike (Cheryl) Ater of Castle Rock, Colorado, Jim (Gwen) Ater of Olathe, and Bob (Jeanie) Ater of Overland Park, KS, twelve grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.
