Doris L. Roush

January 19, 1940 — May 8, 2022

Doris Louise (Gallup) Roush was born on January 19, 1940, in Galena, Kansas, to Lorenzo
Dowell and Dorothy Mildred (Stewart) Gallup and passed away at her home in Overland Park,
Kansas, on May 8, 2022.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Lorenzo Gallup and Dorothy Taylor, one sister,
Mary Brake, her daughter Diana L. Stout, and granddaughter Heather L. Harding. Doris is
survived by her four daughters, Joyce L. DeGhelder (Bruce) of Rich Hill, Missouri, Peggy L.
Barnhart (Kenneth) of Fort Worth, Texas, Dotty L. Harding (Ken) of Louisburg, Kansas, and
Tracy L. Stokes of Olathe, Kansas, one son-in-law, Stephen R. Stout, 15 grandchildren, 21
great-grandchildren, two sisters, Donna Nash of North Kansas City, Missouri, and Flora Howard
of Arma, Kansas.

Doris graduated in 1957 from Oswego High School in Oswego, Kansas at seventeen years of
age. One of her favorite school memories was playing basketball. After graduation, she moved
to North Kansas City to work as a typist at Bell & Hess. She married Gary Lee Roush on
December 26, 1958, and together they had five daughters. Caring for five girls kept Doris busy,
but she still found time to enjoy sewing their dresses, embroidering, canning vegetables from
their garden, and taking family vacations. When she found herself with an empty nest, she joined
the workforce at JC Penney and remained there until her retirement in 2006. Doris planned and
cooked countless holiday meals for her family, and enjoyed family gatherings with four
generations. Grandma's chocolate pies and homemade egg noodles were always a family
favorite! She loved sunflowers, fireworks, college basketball (especially KU), Chief's football,
and watching Survivor! Getting the opportunity to watch her grandchildren play sports and
perform musically was something she eagerly looked forward to. Nothing brought Doris more
joy than spending time with her family and knowing they were safe and happy. She will be
missed but forever in our hearts.
