DORIS COLLEEN ( DYER ) BRIGGS
Born February 17, 1923 in Fostoria, Ohio, passed away May 24, 2009 in Olathe, Kansas. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 10:00 am at Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home, 500 Lima Avenue, Findlay, Ohio. Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Open Arms Domestic Violence Organization, P.O Box 496, Findlay, Ohio 45839-0496, or to the Alzheimer's Association, 1800 N Blanchard St., Findlay, OH 45840.
Doris was born to Delmar and Tressa Dyer and she graduated from Findlay High School. She had a life-long passion for creative expression, culminating after years of various employment positions, in her art studio where she was able to share her gift with others through her china painting and teaching students the craft.
Doris and her husband, Max, were active in volunteer work, including the Open Arms Domestic Violence Shelter, and delivering Meals-On-Wheels to the infirm. Doris received the February Spotlight Volunteer Award in 1995 for her service with Open Arms. She also volunteered her time at a school for handicapped children.
In her leisure, she enjoyed hunting and fishing with her family, sewing, embroidery, gardening, dancing, music and live theatre.
She is survived by her daughter Dorene DeRodes and her husband, J.W., of Olathe, KS., and son Dennis Michael Briggs and his wife, Janis, of Culver City, CA, her brother Vernon Dyer and his wife Eileen, of Findlay, Ohio, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Max Briggs, her son Don William Briggs and his wife Sharon Briggs, and their two children. She was also preceded in death by her brother Darryl Dyer and his wife, Martha.
