DONNA E. SHURLING, age 69, passed away December 15, 2013 at home in Olathe, KS surrounded by her family. Donna Shurling was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on December 11th, 1944 to William & Lenore Leyer. Her father was in the transportation industry and they moved around alot, especially in the upper Midwest. She met Edwin Enger in high school and they married, having a son Bill in 1968. Edwin passed away in 1973, so Donna and Bill made the move to Georgia where William and Lenore had settled. She met Huey 'Art' Shurling soon after, and they were married in 1976 and Donna became a step-mother to Penny and Scott Shurling. This was a great time for the family, as they all spent summers and visits with all the Shurling family who welcomed Donna and Bill with open arms. In 1980, Art, Donna and Bill made the move to Olathe, Ks. Donna worked various jobs with J.C.Penney, Creative Circle and Yellow Freight. She eventually settled in at Garmin International, where she recently celebrated her 20 year anniversary. Donna and Art were always together and enjoyed traveling, which included taking cruises with friends and family, and trips to the lake often. Art passed away in 2006 after a long bout with cancer. Donna, always at his side, then took care of anyone who needed a hand. Donna was always helping and caring for others and always had a smile or an encouraging thought for everyone. She loved working at Garmin, as she was known as "Mama Garmin", and had an amazing group of friends that were always with her. She was the most fun person you would ever meet, and will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all that knew her.
The family will welcome friends at Donna's home, Thursday, December 19 at 5:00pm, to continue the celebration of her life and sharing of memories.
