Donna Lynne Domsch

May 24, 1956 — November 20, 2020

Donna Lynne Trowbridge Domsch, 64, of Shawnee, Kan. passed away peacefully the evening of Friday, November 20, 2020 with her husband, Ron, by her side. She had recently been diagnosed with an aggressive brain cancer.

Donna was born May 24, 1956 in Kansas City, Kan. to Leo and Ella "Jane" (Nelson) Trowbridge. She attended St. Patrick's School through 8th grade and went on to Washington High School, where she graduated as valedictorian in 1974. Donna earned her Associate in Science from Kansas City Kansas Community Junior College before going on to study chemical engineering at the University of Kansas.

While working as a programmer for the Kansas City, Kan. Planning Department, Donna met her future husband of 42 years, Ron Domsch. They were married on June 3, 1978. They started their family in the Brookside area of Kansas City, Mo., eventually moving to Shawnee, Kan., where they have lived since 1987. Donna was a homemaker and cherished her involvement with her church as well as her children's school and sports activities.

Donna's hobbies included sewing, knitting, reading, and cooking, and she was generous in sharing her talents with others. Endlessly creative, she designed one-of-a-kind Halloween costumes for her children and grandchildren, knitted baby blankets and hats, and sewed dozens of face masks over the past several months. She also enjoyed organizing both high school and family reunions. She was particularly well-known within the family for doing extensive genealogy research. In recent years, Donna has enjoyed traveling, attending her grandsons' school and sporting events, getting together with her lifelong group of friends, and spending time with family at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Jane Trowbridge; brother-in-law, David Domsch; and brother-in-law, John Bartkoski. She is survived by her loving husband, Ron; daughter, Jennifer Bohr (Casey) of Olathe, Kan.; sons, Robert Domsch (Ashley) of Overland Park, Kan., and Daniel Domsch (Leslie) of Lenexa, Kan. Donna is survived by five grandchildren, Dayton Bohr, Beckett Bohr, Theodore Domsch, Jane Domsch, and Vance Domsch; sister, DeAnn Bartkoski; brother, Danny Trowbridge (Angie); sister-in-law, Laurie Domsch; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to say a special thanks to the incredible teams of doctors, nurses, and caregivers at the University of Kansas Medical Center who helped Donna overcome breast cancer in 2017 and were by her side during this most recent affliction. They also thank the team at Kansas City Hospice House who ensured Donna's comfort during her final days.

A private service will be held for immediate family, with a celebration of life tentatively planned for May 2021 in honor of Donna's 65th birthday. Inurnment will take place at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Kansas City, Kan. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to KU Endowment, 3901 Rainbow Blvd., Mail Stop 3012, Kansas City, KS 66160, to benefit brain cancer research. Online contributions may be made at www.kuendowment.org/givenow. Please indicate that donations are for the Donna Domsch memorial.
