Donita M. Daniels, daughter of Grisgby Milton Jr. and Lillie Maye Milton, was born at her father's parents' home on Star Route, Lockney, TX. She grew up a country girl on the "caprock" helping on her parents' cotton farms. She went to grade school in South Plains, TX and graduated from Floydada, TX High School in 1958. Donita attended and was a member of the South Plains Baptist Church. Later she attended The First Christian Church, Amarillo TX.
After graduating high school, Donita went to Draughons Business College in Lubbock, TX learning to use office equipment of the time. After completing the course, she went to work for the Texas Oil Company in Fort Worth.
In August of 1959, Donita married her high school sweetheart Arliss Powell. They had three children Jerry, Lisa and Carmen. They lived in four states: TX, NM, NE and SD. They separated in 1976 and Donita and the children moved back to Floydada, TX. They divorced in 1977.
While living in Floydada, Donita worked at several local businesses and was a beauty consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetics. She was honored for outstanding sales at Mary Kay's Eighth Annual National Seminar in Dallas TX. Mary Kay Ash, chairman of the board, personally presented the award.
In 1979 she took a job with the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation that turned into a career within the USDA. She worked her way up from "when actually employed" to a full time Specialist in the Risk Management Agency's (RMA) National Service Office in Kansas City, MO. There she served in the Compliance Division and later wrote loss adjustment handbooks for cotton and other crop insurance programs. Donita retired in January 2003.
In 1988 Donita married Glen Daniels who also worked for the RMA. In 1989 they built a new home in Olathe, KS and lived there until Donita became a resident of a memory care community in Overland Park, KS in November 2017. Glen joined Donita in retirement in October 2007. They enjoyed their "together" time and took frequent trips.
Donita was devoted to her family and welcomed Glen's family as if it was her own. She remembered and celebrated the children's and grand-children's birthdays. Christmas was a very special time for her. She loved spending Christmas with family.
Donita was very proud of her Texas heritage. She missed few opportunities to let people know where she was from. When visiting family in TX, she relished attending services at the South Plains Baptist Church. Recently, she talked frequently about wanting to go home. Going home, to where her mother and daddy live. The morning of January 18, 2020 she went home, to be with our Lord and savior Jesus Christ, in the only place better than her beloved Texas.
Donita was preceded in death by her parents; Granddaughter, Lauren Powell; Step-son, Kevin Daniels; and Son-in-law, Rex Rose.
Donita leaves behind a loving family. Husband, Glen Daniels of Olathe, KS; a son Jerry Powell of Lockney, TX; two daughters and their husbands, Lisa and Jim Barnhill of Wichita Falls, TX and Carmen and Bill Wright of Irving, TX; step-son and wife, Brian and Pam Daniels of Olathe, KS; two sisters and their husbands, Barbara and Eugene Edwards and Darla and Jerry Chappell all of Floydada, TX; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be given to either the Alzheimer's Association - Heart of America Chapter, 3846 W. 75th Street, Prairie Village, KS 66208 or to Susan G. Komen, 8900 State Line Rd. #333, Leawood, KS 66206.
Those we love don't go away.
They walk beside us every day-
unseen,
unheard,
but always near,
still loved,
still missed,
and
very dear. -Author Unknown-
