Donald Lee Pratt

February 21, 1931 — May 25, 2024

Donald Lee Pratt, 93, of Shawnee, KS, peacefully eased his way out of this life on May 25, 2024 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center, surrounded by those he loved most, his family.

He was born on February 21, 1931 to Lewis and Lola (Beers) Pratt in Linwood, CA.
Don proudly served his country in the US Army from 1949 to 1952 where he received the Truman Extension of Berlin Airlift.

After his service he attended University of Central Missouri where he received his Associates degree.
Don was the owner and operator of the Accounting Firm at Pratt and Associates, until his retirement in 2000.

On June 29, 1953, he married Carol Joyce Hanna, and they made their home in Olathe, KS.

Don was a child of the Great Depression, and one of 7 children. They moved over 12 times during the 1930s and early 1940s. He was best known for his kind and tender heart. He treated people well and loved deeply. He was highly respected and loved for who he was. People often refer to him as "one of a kind". Don had a great sense of humor and cherished sharing a good laugh with those he loved. He was a true family oriented man. He loved his siblings, nieces and nephews. He loved his son-in-law Ron as his own. His daughter and grandchildren were his pride and joy - he was the ultimate grandpa.

He had many passions and hobbies in life which involved traveling the world through many family trips and cruising the seas with family and friends. He dreamed of being a professional baseball player - he had the opportunity to play for the Army during his time of service. He also loved to play golf and was a member of Senior Golf Club. He had a love for classic cars and became a collector of the classic miniature cars. He was a true outdoorsman - he loved to fish and hunt and being on the water. He had the gift and passion for craftsmanship. He built a cabin on Lake Kahola for his family where many hours were spent boating and waterskiing. He made countless memories with his daughter Pam through taking (and teaching) her fishing, sailing, enjoying Chiefs games and so many more adventures.

Don is survived by his loving wife, Joyce, and daughter Pam, son-in-law Ron Samuels, four grandchildren and their spouses - Jamie Samuels, Joel (Kelsey) Samuels, Jason (Jessica) Samuels, Dawn (Cody) Goode and by his 7 great grandchildren - Jesse, Mazie, Sutton, Evylnn, Richard, Amilea, and Ryder, his sister Dolores (Pratt) Plumb and Brother Jerry Pratt, as well as many nieces and nephews who adored their uncle Don.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Fred Pratt, Jim Pratt, sisters Evelyn (Pratt) Damore and Barbra (Pratt) Walton.
