Donald Lee Kelley (Don) passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at his home in Overland Park, KS. He was born February 12th 1935 in Kansas City, Mo. He graduated from Southeast High School in 1953 and Baker University in 1957. He joined the US Naval Reserve in 1953 and proudly served his country for 8 years.
He was the second son of Robert & Elsie Kelley. He was raised in a loving family that included his older brother Robert (Nancy) and younger brother Frank (Donna). Don's father taught him to hunt, fish and a general love of the outdoors. He passed these traits on to his children and grandchildren.
After graduation from Baker University, he went to work with Allstate Insurance Company. He retired from Allstate in 1988 after 33 years. He served in various management assignments around the Midwest.
After retiring from Allstate, he took a job driving a school bus for Laidlaw in Olathe, KS. He loved this job so much – more than the job, he loved being surrounded by young people. The interaction with them – encouraging them in academics and sports was his true calling in life. His life was enriched by the Olathe Northwest Sports teams, players, coaches & administrators.
He was a life-long Christian and loved the Lord. He shared that relationship with many and is now happy in heaven – reunited with his parents, his oldest son Brian and many other relatives. He leaves behind his wife Joan; sons Keith (Lorri) & Mike (Heather); a daughter Paige Miller (Rob); daughter in-law Debbie; and a niece and nephew. He also leaves nine grandchildren and countless young people that he treated just as his own. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Paul's Catholic School, 920 W. Honeysuckle Olathe, KS 66061.
