Donald K. Ashlock, 85, Olathe, passed away suddenly Monday, March 5, 2012 while enjoying his last workout. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to Hospice of Olathe Medical Center.
He was born October 3, 1926 to Pauline K. and Donald M. Ashlock at their home in Olathe. He graduated from Olathe High School in 1944 and excelled in football, basketball, and track. Upon turning 18 years of age he enlisted in the US Navy where he spent 2 years in training before receiving an honorable discharge in 1946, after the end of WWII.
Don enrolled at the University of Kansas graduating with a business degree in 1950 and was a diver on the KU swim team. He spent two years employed by Hallmark Cards in Kansas City. He then followed in his father's footsteps and began two careers of 59 years with First Federal Savings in Olathe. He served as President and CEO until he retired in 1995 and as a director and chairman before finally retiring in early 2011, although he still showed up for work every morning. He continued to serve as Chairman Emeritus of the Board.
Don is survived by his wife and best friend of almost 60 years, Donna, two children; Tracy, Portland, Oregon, and Mitch (Terri) locally, and two grandchildren; Whitney and Dylan.
