Donald R. Cassady

December 9, 1930 — October 20, 2020

Donald Raymond Cassady, currently of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away on October 20, 2020 at the age of 89. He
was a native of Indianapolis, Indiana; the only child of Raymond and Florence Keller Cassady. Don graduated
from Shortridge High School in 1949. He went on to receive a Bachelor's of Chemistry at Butler University in
1953 and a Master's of Chemistry from Purdue University in 1955. He met his wife, Nadia Fedoryshyn, while working as a research chemist at Eli Lilly and Company of Indianapolis. They married in 1957. While working for Eli Lilly he was appointed National Editor of The Hexagon in 1962; the publication of the chemical fraternity Alpha Chi Sigma. In 1968 Don took his career in a different direction and received a law degree from Indiana University. In 1969 he joined Great Lakes Carbon Company of Elizabethton, Tennessee as a patent attorney, witnessing the advent of carbon fiber technology. In 1976 Don moved his family again and took a new job as a patent attorney with Gulf Oil Corporation in Merriam, Kansas. He continued with Gulf Oil moving to Denver, Colorado in 1979, working on alternate methods of fuel production during our oil crisis. In 1985 Don and Nadia moved south to Corpus Christi, Texas where Don worked as a patent and licensing attorney for Hoechst Celanese Corporation. He traveled the world while authoring over 100 patents and representing them for Celanese's manufacturing and chemical divisions. In 1999 Don retired and he and Nadia moved back to the Kansas City area living in Overland Park, Kansas, before their final move to Lakeview Village in Lenexa in 2012. He is survived by his wife, Nadia; his son, David Cassady (Cathi) of Harlingen, TX; two daughters: Cathy Kearns (Lee) of Olathe, KS and Christine Reder (Steve) of Centennial, CO; and his 6 grandchildren; Andrew, Jennifer, Megan, Jeremy, Joshua, and Rebecca. No services are planned.
