Dolly Sharples
Dolly Virginia (Pesh) Sharples, born October 31, 1920 in Detroit, Michigan, died September 11, 2008 in Olathe, Kansas. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lemoyne (Jeff) Sharples in 1982, and by her mother, Marie Marklein, her father, Frank Pesh, her step-father, William Marklein, her sister and brother-in-law, Denise and Claire Kubiak, her nephew, Kevin Pesh, and her niece, Dawn Kubiak. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Nadine Pesh of Michigan, her children and their spouses, Rick and Angie Sharples of Atlanta and Sandy and John Marksbury of Olathe, her grandchildren, Rick, Joel, Erika, and Paul, and her great-grandchildren, Briggs, Riley, Skyler, Shelby, and Oscar.
Dolly graduated from Fordson High School, then earned her bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University and her master's from Wayne State University. She taught math for the Dearborn Michigan school system for thirty-three years. After her retirement, Dolly moved to Olathe where she gave her time as a classroom volunteer to Scarborough and Heatherstone Elementary Schools. Dolly also earned over 6000 hours of volunteer service at Olathe Medical Center.
She will be remembered for her years of dedicated service, her sassy humor, her love of a good deal, her commitment to her students, her fiery red hair, her knack for bingo, and her excitement about the youngest and newest members of her family. Family and friends are invited to attend a service in her honor at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S Blackbob Rd., Olathe, KS, on Sunday, September 14 at 3:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to Olathe Hospice.
